News Briefs
I'll write a more substantive post tomorrow, but I just had to share four interesting pieces of news. . .
1. Shannon and I finally began our blog about our trip to Ireland in 2003. It's called Eurotrashed, and I think you'll enjoy it. There are pictures and stories galore. So far we've written up 4 days of the 9 day trip, and once the stories are done, there'll be even more pictures.
2. I was watching the new show Rock Star last night after class, and I saw that there were 2 people from Chicago on it. The girl, Jessica, looked very familiar, and after looking up her profile, I figured out that she's the lead singer of Cover Gurl, a band I've seen play at Samy's and other venues. They're awesome, so I hope she does well. Note: the guy from Chicago, Marty, is the lead singer of the Chicago band The Swinging Lovehammers. Julie, you may remember the time we went to the Johnny Walker tasting party senior year and that dude tried to pitch woo by telling you about his gig as a Swinging Lovehammers roadie.
3. The recreation of Sapphire is happening. According to the H-N, starting July 23 it will be an all new Sapphire. They'll have food, no cover, a "more lenient dress code" (does this include swollies?) and cheaper drinks. Also mentioned: a salsa night and. . .a six week competition to crown Miss Sapphire. I want to be Miss Cubic Zirconia myself.
4. Speaking of the Herald News, starting sometime in August, I'm going to have a weekly column in the paper. The column will be in the vein of Whiskey Tango, so it should be good times. I'll post links once it starts.
More news later!!!

Tiffani Thiessen Weds Actor Brady Smith
Jul 11, 6:27 PM EST
The Associated Press
Tiffani Thiessen, who played Kelly Kaposki on "Saved by the Bell," wed actor Brady Smith over the weekend.
The marriage was confirmed Monday by Thiessen's publicist, Amy Van Iden. After becoming engaged earlier this year, the couple were married Saturday at a private estate in Montecito, Calif.
Thiessen, 31, and Smith, 33, were surrounded by friends and family for a daytime garden wedding, People magazine reported. It is the first marriage for both.
After Thiessen's breakthrough role in NBC's teenage sitcom, she graduated to Fox's "Beverly Hills, 90210," where she played starlet Valerie Malone. Thiessen dropped her given name, Tiffani-Amber, in 2000. She had a role in Woody Allen's 2002 film, "Hollywood Ending."
She was engaged to actor Richard Ruccolo for 1 1/2 years before splitting in spring 2003.
Smith has appeared in "ER," "CSI: Miami" and HBO's "The Comeback."
Good to know that she changed from Tiffani-Amber to Tiffani. Has Mark-Paul Gosselaar dropped the Paul yet?
Emily, you get my vote for Miss Cubic Zirconia. I hope Sapphire makes it. They installed a big new sign earlier this week. They needed one. They also need to get rid of that ridiculous DJ, Gee.
Congrats on the new column. Why can't I find any of your previous columns when I search the H-N archives?
Good question. I think they put stuff in their archive pretty quickly and then you have to pay for it. One of them was still up there though, here's the link: http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/heraldnews/opinions/commonsense/j22common1.htm
Yeah, Gee has an annoying habit of inserting his name into every song ("If you wanna come to Gee's hotel ..." No, no sir, I do not). Anyway.
The Miss Sapphire contest? Will be comedy gold. I can't wait. Emily, we can't miss it.
Speaking of Mark-Paul, I recently watched the awesome Lifetime movie "She Cried No," in which Zack Morris rapes DJ Tanner. Quality film, I tell you.
i do indeed remember SLH roadie. whenever i hear something about that band (which isn't often) i think fondly of him. ;)

Shanny, "Zack Morris Rapes DJ Tanner (and also Six from Blossom, who plays the violin)" is indeed quality, but my favorite is "Kevin Arnold Kills DJ Tanner." DJ just couldn't get a break. Another good one: "Friends of David Silver Rape Kelly Kapowski." Also good:"After Six from Blossom Falls Off a Balcony, Hilary Swank's Got Some Investigatin' to Do." Gotta love Lifetime. . .Julie, supposedly they're no longer "Swingin," but just the Lovehammers now. Maybe they got married?
"Friends of David Silver rape Kelly Kapowski/Valerie Malone" was on right before the DJ Tanner film. Kelly and David end up making a loooove connection, it's quite touching. I think they also stab one of the rapists, which is quality.
There's also two other fabulous Lifetime movies that I love, once which features Brenda Walsh getting her hair cut off, then drowned in the woods; and another -- how could we forget! -- in which Kelli Martin stabs Tori Spelling because "(she) just wanted to be (Tori's) friend." Those early 90s teen stars were staging a veritable Lifetime takeover back in those days.
Julie,
Maybe you should come out to Joe's on Weed St. Tuesday night when the Lovehammers will be there to watch Rockstar:INXS. You might just run into me.
The Roadie.
