Summertime, J-town Style
I love this weather, it brings out all the muscle shirts, heehee. The two things that my brother and I have noticed are very common in Joliet in the summertime are two kids on one bike (especially in front of Sonny's Delite) and baby dolls in the middle of the street (apparently they weren't able to cross to safety on the other side). I've already seen two on a bike going down Glenwood the other day, and it's not even officially summer yet. Aww yeah. . .
Last night's adventure included a trip to Quigley's in Naperville with Shannon, Joe, Mel, and Jake. It was karaoke night at Quigley's, which is a little different from karaoke night at J-town's the Grapevine. Where the singers at Quigley's went by their own names, singers at the Grapevine go by pseudonyms such as "Erica," "Shades," and "Sexual Chocolate." There was also a significantly lower number of country songs performed at Quigley's than at the Grapevine. However, a singer at Quigley's did a horrendous version of "American Pie" that led Joe to comment, "this is the day that the music died." We took up residence in an area of Quigley's, which, after a while, we realized seemed to be the designated hang out for the middle aged men (one going for the preppy look with his collar up) to hang out and stare at twentysomething booty. Luckily the chief offender left, and we were able to make our usual commentary without too much harassment. The trend among the younger guys at the bar (well, at least two of them, and I think others followed) was to roll up their left pants leg. Perhaps it's a Naperville thing, I don't know.
There was a bit of unforeseen drama on the way home from Naperville. We were driving home on 55 when we noticed that the traffic in front of us was backed up and cars were not moving. Figuring there had probably been some kind of accident, we parked and sat waiting. Unfortunately, one of us really needed to pee (sorry Mom if you're reading this, I know you hate that word) and there were no cups in the car, and it didn't look like we'd be moving for a while. We got out of the car in an attempt to have some roadside relief (I was serving as privacy shield) but once we walked from the shoulder to the surrounding weeds, the cars started moving again. We raced back to the car and made it safely to my house without any accidents.
The Heroes report from tonight will probably be a bit late because I have to work in Chi-town tomorrow and won't get a chance to update until later, but I'm sure the usual hijinks will be in effect. I'll leave you with a quote from a Quigley's patron last night when the Eminem song came on: "All the wannabe white trash are coming out for this." Apparently Naperville gets the wannabes, but Joliet gets the authentic Whiskey Tango.
